Rio Day Minus Two: Gone in 21 Seconds

The Games of the 31st Olympiad have begun in the now traditional fashion: Women's Soccer Wednesday on Day Minus Two. And hasn't Australia got its 2016 Olympic campaign off to a flying start! Conceding a goal to Canada in the first 21 seconds of their opening game.

More interesting is the fact that Zimbabwe scored a goal against Germany.

This is the start of my daily updates on the Rio Olympics. Another two and a half weeks of ambivalence over an event too cumbersome, expensive and commercially miserable for everyone;s good, yet... well, the thrill, fascination and sheer weirdness of global competitive sport.

I've gone down the Olympic bloggage road before: Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, and London 2012. Bear with me as I attempt to do it all again, older, less wise, less energetic, and more prone to cling to Twitter as my main expressive platform.

I do, however, promise one daily video (or maybe vine or gif, it depends). I would love it to be a highlight of the day's action, but as we all understand this is outrageously impossible due to draconian IOC commercial restrictions.
